Music inspired by Gentle Giant

There is a CD of music inspired by Gentle Giant which is quite good and would fit in with what AM plays. This was created by list members of On-Reflection, a list for GG fans (yes, I am one!). This is done by several various artists. There are samples here http://cdbaby.com/cd/gianthour and I would be happy to mail a promo copy to AM.

A great subject to pick...but how about all the songs lifted from Giant? Spock's Beard "Thoughts" and Echolyn's "A Little Nonsense" immediately spring to mind....

Hey R&R,
It's funny. People have been telling me about Spock's Beard and I listened to one CD (sorry, I don't remember which one) at a store once and somehow it did not strike a chord with me. Perhaps I listened to the wrong one. I love Echolyn's "As the World", and there are a few "GG" moments on that one too. I was proposing this CD because it's not by a known band, it's by online friends (I too have a tune on this one, so you can say I'm biased ;) ), and there are some really good tunes there which I feel may be of interest to listeners of AM.:)

Sorry about that... I was just commenting on those particular two songs. "As The World" is in my top 10 records...the Nonsense song is off Suffocating the Bloom. About the Beard, that one song is just like GG.

Didn't mean to derail the original premise... if you could, send a private message to Jim Brennan, the program director...we love promo copies!

No Sweat! You just gave me a reason to play Suffocating the Bloom! I was not impressed with it when I got it. But then, I didn't like GG on first listen also, I guess that's just prog! Some things get to you right away, otheres take time. I used to love side 1 of UK's first LP. Hardly played side 2. Years later, I fell in love with side 2!

Thanks for the tip!

That's actually on "Danger Money", but what the hell.

(Figures my first post after a fairly long absence is a correction):dunno:

Good catch! Although I think the first lineup of UK with Bruf & Holdsworth was top notch, Danger Money was not a bad second...but Bruf and Holdsworth were missed.

a rare senior moment...geez, Upon reflection (sorry) I can name you most record's songs in order (it's one of my many non-revenue producing talents), but I am rightfully embarrased by the gaffe...Nevermore......

Many thanks to Jim and Roger for the addition of Giant for an Hour to the AM playlist. It's an honor to have our music here and to make it even better, it's on the same day that our friends, Advent, have their music uploaded! I hope you all enjoy it!

i've heard most of this compilation, and there's some
great music happening! much of it goes beyond "tribute".

andy-congrats, and well deserved!
you're a great addition to the AM family.
i hope everyone gives a listen, supports this project.

re:spock's beard- "V" is IMO their best work,
"at the end of the day" my favorite tune...
although many prefer "the great nothing".

Hey Kirk,

Thanks so much! That means a lot coming from a great musician as youself! And thanks for the welcome as well, though I must say I've been around here much longer as a listener. It's only recently that I joined the forum.

And you know, I'll bet there are plenty of great musicians here too- I could see a compilation of prog from Moonies to help support the station. The nice thing about a compilation like this is that if you don't have the time and money to produce your own CD, you can do it with others who don't either. Or, as some bands did on the compilation, they would write something for the compilation. I love it!

Thank you too Rick!
(I still have those Chicago tunes buzzing around my head- good show!)

Andy, there's been a ton of discussion about Gentle Giant in the Salem Hill discussion group I belong to (It's on Yahoo).

Could you join up and give the CD a plug? I think they'd love it.

If you have problems joining, let me know....

Rick

Andyyyy,

I reckon you're going to LOVE Salem Hill. They are definitely one of my favourite finds from listening to The Moon.

I first heard them when I saw them live at Rosfest 2004. Shame on ME for not hearing them before!

On each release prior to the latest, they had a couple of King's X sounding songs, which immediately caught my ear.:salute

First two CD's (Salem Hill and Different Worlds) are in the Kansas vein, but has some mature stuff on it. Then Catatonia, Robbery of Murder, Not Everybody's Gold, and the live Puppet Show. Robbery and Catatonia are some fans' favorites.

The last two, Be and Mimi's Magic Moment (my avatar by the way), are in my top records ever. They're that good.

Moses is also a huge fan and can provide insight.

I've played all of Be on the show, and all of Mimi at some point. I'll most likely do a full show in May or June.

Carl Groves (the main Hillion) has a great solo CD, Branch Upon the Ground (played that also and has since been added to the Moon).

Andy, I have to agree with all the comments here on your CD. Like Kirk said................Originally Posted by kirk
"i've heard most of this compilation, and there's some

I like ALL of their albums, probably Power and the Glory, the most. I sure wish they'd re-unite. Keep up the GREAT WORK!!!
