Journey to Rosfest and NearFest in 08
Ok Moonies help us out. We are traveling from the San Fransisco bay area to RosFest and NearFest in 08. What would be the best airport to fly into as far as air fares go? What would transportation be like from various airports to Rosfest and NearFest? I know there some very seasoned travelers out there. Help us out. :xfinger:

Re: Journey to Rosfest and NearFest in 08
Philadelphia is probably the best airport for both festivals and rent a car from there.
But you might be able to hook a ride from someone else arriving at the airport as well. I know I fly in for RosFest to Philly as well. But I'm coming in Thursday night to get settled and play friday in the city. :) But we might could pick you up if timing works right. But you probably want a car for this area. Not very public transportation minded out in the venue areas. Rosfest is closer in to Philly and would be a little easier taxi wise. NearFest, you need a car or a chauffered service. |

Philadelphia (PHL) might be your best bet for ROSfest. I'll see what SEPTA has to offer in terms of transportion from there to Glenside Area and report back. I'd offer to get you and take you back but I don't know what my load will be yet. For NEARfest, Newark Liberty (EWR ) may be a good option. It's only an hour on I-78 and probably faster than from PHL. I picked GORT up from there for NEARfest. Transbridge runs a bus from Allentown/Bethlehem to EWR. http://www.transbridgebus.com/ From SF, you might get your best rate into EWR. Continental flies direct and EWR is their big hub in the US/NE. Martha and I picked up and put up (and put up with :neener: ) RogorMortis (arrived from Denmark at NY/JFK) and Teermin8r (PHL) for last year's ROSfest. We had to drive 2 vehicles to ROSfest. M and I were toying with the idea of leasing a larger vehicle if the same happens this year. I may have KeithieW to pick up too this year. I'd lease a small RV but I'd be afraid that KW/RM/T8R would finish off the Guinness in the back before we arrive! If you are coming east for longer than these festival weekends, let me know. I can show you around Philly, NYC, Lehigh Valley, etc. |

Sallie and I will be in the area with a vehicle and can also assist with vehicle transportation if it gets hectic. In fact if any one is coming in about the same time we are we can share direct from the airport.
I hadn't booked my flight yet - so let me know of some plans. I will probably want to be coming in Thursday evening or Friday morning/early afternoon. |

Tell ya what: in a pinch, and assuming I make it, I can handle driving duties (as long as I have a navigator). Either that or I can make sure that I'm the keeper of the Guinness and can make sure it gets divvied out fairly.

Re: Journey to Rosfest and NearFest in 08
My wife and I will be arriving in Philly on April 30th. We will be staying until May 6th. So, what else can we do in the area while we are there? We will have a car. Suggestions.

You could do it in the car, but I would get a room for at least a few days..... ok, sorry...Baseball games, other concerts, you could hit Atlantic City if you gamble. unfortunately the East coast lacks the physical scenic attractions. |

I can take you to some very scenic parts. Pennsylvania mountains were I was born and raised. The proNJ Pine Barrens or some of the shore areas. If you want to gamble in AC, you're on your own. I will only go to AC for a show. If you want to toss your money away, toss it my way. ;) Depending upon when you are here, Teermin8r likes to go to a Phillies game at their park. It's a new and beautiful ball park. Good food, beer and fun. I could take you to the historical sites of Philly (independence Mall, Liberty Bell, etc.) or over to the Parkway (all the museums: PMA famous for the Rocky run, Franklin Institute, MNH, Rodan, etc.). Historic South Street and Penn's Landing and even to the oldest operating restaurant in the country, Bookbinders. NYC isn't very picturesque... it's a glass and steel dirty hole but if there are places you'd like to see (save for ground zero), I can show you there too. Of course, I know watering holes everywhere so you won't get parched on the tour. |
Re: Journey to Rosfest and NearFest in 08
Cool! looking for historic sites, etc. The Guinness MUST be cold, can't drink it warm like the folks across the sea .:ick:

Just because beer is not chilled to within fractions of a degree of freezing -- making it so cold that one's teeth hurt to drink it -- does NOT mean that the beer is served warm. The ONLY reason US domestic beer is served ICE COLD is so that you can't taste it! Believe me, you wouldn't want to taste as most US domestic beers because they taste like piss. You will be served a proper pint of Guinness poured at 4ºC. |
Re: Journey to Rosfest and NearFest in 08
My bad. I knew that. Thanks for the refresher course. :surrender :surrender also.. I do not drink the standard domestic beers either. I prefer Ales mostly from..http://www.bearrepublic.com/ourbeers.php good stuff and close to home..

39 degrees is fridge temp. Most beer could be drank warmer. Proper is in the eye of the beholder. |
