1st Annual Listener Appreciation Day

Aural Moon has grown by incredible leaps and bounds over the past several years, but nothing has been more amazing to me than the community that has formed here.

To celebrate and thank you guys for making Aural Moon what it is today, I'm taking ideas for the 1st Annual Aural Moon Listener Appreciate Day. (Yes, I know, since it's the 1st one, how can it already be annual -yes, yes).

Come up with some ideas about what we could do. If there's anyway we could get your voices on the station, I think that would be a blast. Maybe those with microphones can do this.

I envisioned an all-request day, where perhaps we play a little hookey, and lessen the time between requests.

What else would you like to see? Still finalizing the date, too...

a few things

being a computer novice, I'll leave the voices etc to the others. I am looking forward to meeting some of you at Nearfest, if feasible.

Although a lot of my favorite songs are not on the Moon, a lot of them are. I'm sure I could come up with some fun stuff.

Don't open Pandora's Box with me though, I always wanted to do a playlist.

The little Trivia thing we have going in the forum (currently Moses' question) is very fun (although time-consuming) and maybe that could be a feature that day also.

By the way, saw a little something about a new music show. Like the idea.

Thanks for being user-friendly, Avian!

KeithieW 01-30-2004 04:14 AM

Great idea Avian.......

An all requests day would be good.

mossy has already suggested the regulars in the shout and chat box have a 24 hour marathon. May be difficult to arrange but could be fun.

Also how about people sending you a list (maybe an hour or so's worth of tracks) of music they've discovered and fallen in love with via AM? I could do a whole day I'm sure!!!!!

It's so great to be a part of this community and I hope to meet up with as many of you as possible in the time to come. That's already started with progdirjim next month, VAXman in July and maybe mossy later in the year. More, more, more.

zvinki 01-30-2004 10:44 AM

Sounds like fun

We have a lot of characters here on AM who also have a very good feel of prog. How about each one does a 1 hour show of music that they want to present to us (maybe 2 hours would be better since prog songs can be long). The DJ could provide comments via chat or shout if live is too difficult. I nominate Yesspaz, Kethie, RickandRoll, Podakayne, Mossy, Artboy, some of our friends from Brazil, Wojtek, etc, etc.

Yesspaz 01-30-2004 12:55 PM

Sure, yeah, whatever, let's rock.

PlayingTheFool 01-30-2004 05:51 PM

Sounds good!!! :D

podakayne 02-15-2004 12:41 AM

thanks for the vote of confidence Zvinki

i'm honored you'd like me to DJ! i think its a grand idea...meant to comment long before now...but it's late and the computer is mine right now.:D

thinking of what to say to send in an audio file. might scare myself!

let's keep these ideas coming...and no i haven't decided if i want to spoil the illusion and send in a picture for the gallery.(someone suggested that)...maybe later.

Avian 02-16-2004 11:57 AM

Okay, I've set the date for the 1st Annual Listener Appreciation Day. It will also coincide with Aural Moon's 5th Anniversary.

June 22, 2004

That's a Tuesday. Anyone have a problem with it being on a weekday rather than a weekend?

jnighting 02-16-2004 08:35 PM

June 22 sounds great...............No matter that it is a Tuesday, I'll just lock myself in my office with a "Do Not Disturb" sign on the door.
Looking forward to it and looking forward to what ideas will come up as to how it will work.

KeithieW 02-17-2004 02:48 AM

Excellent!!!!!!!

No jobs that day.............I think I will be glued to the PC 24 hours plus.

Really looking forward to it. Any ideas to the format yet Avian?

Avian 02-17-2004 08:17 AM

Yeah, I think I'm going to do a 24-hour show... record a bunch of voice tracks, talk about the station, and play requests and playlists from folks.

I'd LOVE to get voice submissions from you folks. If you have a way to record a greeting or say something that you want to be broadcast, please feel free to email me the file. I think it would be a really fun day to get all the AM characters actually on the air! Plus, I'm looking into giving away some prizes or something like that.

I'll probably post a news item on the front page about it soon.

How about a blend of shows put together by select AM regulars intermingled with a reduced time span for requests in-between the shows. I have been introduced to so much new music (to me anyhow) since I’ve been logging on to the Moon. I appreciate all the work that must go into the site.

Yesspaz 02-20-2004 03:22 PM

confused

Whoa! I was so confused. I saw Zappa there and thought it was a post by EP, then I realized it was not EP by the content of the post. With no disrespect intended to QuantumJo, is there a way to make it so that only one person can have a certain avatar. Most of the time I don't read who is posting because I associate people with their avatars. Every once in a while I get thrown off by a post because I think that it's PDJ and it's not. Someone else (can't remember who) has that purple water as well, and it screws me up every time. Just a suggestion. Sorry QJo. Thanks. Yesspaz out.

mossy 02-20-2004 03:24 PM

Love the listener show idea. How to select, though. I'd like to hear a little bit from every regular moonwalker, if logistically possible.

We've all been taken on different roads by AM.

This is what I'm proposing, in essence. Email me (or post here) your setlists.

Also, we'll be having a 24-hour white room chat - and tons of other surprises and features.

photos and setlists

I've been prodded to send a strange photograph which Mr. Magoo was to post. This got me to thinking - could we somehow intermingle that feature too? I think a little collage would be cool (for those who want to).

As for the set lists - do they have to be music that's on the Moon? There are some great prog cuts by artists that I'd love to share with others. Possibly I could get a CD burned with those tunes for one-time play. It would great to play music not on the Moon. I can think of at least ten right off of the top of my head. I can send a setlist up in a few weeks.

Ooh I'm getting goosebumps already!!!

And Yesspaz - I think I'll change my avatar to yours!

Rick and Roll 03-09-2004 05:20 PM

the latest?

I'll get you a list tonight.

Rick and Roll 06-16-2004 06:00 PM

It's back!

The thread that is.....

I really wanted to do songs not yet on the Moon, but I couldn't muster up the time to get them to the Moon. Maybe I can do this some other time later on in the year?

In any event, here's a bunch of songs that I really like (not nec. my very favorites) that are on here. Pick one, pick them all, let's hear some more ideas. The 22nd is less than a week away!

The asterisk (*) is for first choices:

Chaos Code - Another Hand
Discipline - Crutches (Live)
Djam Karet - Night of the Mexican Goat Sucker
Echolyn - Winterthru *
ELP - Pirates
Focus - Birth *
Gamalon - Bleecker St.
Stuart Hamm - Call of the Wild
Iluvatar - Late of Conscience
Jethro Tull - Witches' Promise *
Manfred Mann - Visionary Mountains
Ronnie Montrose - Rocky Road
National Health - Dreams Wide Awake
Saga - You're Not Alone
Spock's Beard - The Doorway
Styx - The Grove of Eglantine (if Jim has that around) *
Steve Tibbets - Yr (do we have that one?)
Yes - Siberian Khatru (spelling!) *
Rush - Lakeside Park

Just wanted to get the ball rolling.....

QuantumJo 06-18-2004 09:11 AM

GAMALON

The music I sent in for the 1st ALAD is Gamalon’s 20th Anniversary Live At The Tralf. It chronicles the various lineups and the music they performed together from 1982-2002. It is a live unedited raw feed from the board.

The performers are:
Ted Reinhardt - Drums
Geoffrey Fitzhugh Perry - Electric Violin, Piccolo Base, Rhythm Guitar
Rick McGirr - Keyboard
Bruce Brucato - Guitar
George Puleo - Lead Guitar
Tony Scozzaro - Lead Guitar
Greg Piontek - Base
Tom Rienhardt - Base
Jim Wynne - Base
Jack Kulp - Base

The members of Gamalon are some of the most talented musicians to play locally in the Western New York area. I have seen them play live several times over the years at The Central Park Grill and The Tralf, where one is guaranteed a shot of sonic bliss every time Gamalon takes the stage. Kick back and enjoy the show.

interesting. So it's something along the lines of a 4 string accoustic. I wonder how it's keyed/tuned...

teermin8r 06-18-2004 10:23 PM

sounds like this

not all of that link worked. Do a google search for piccolo bass and then click on images. The first image has a sound bite.

Roger -Dot- Lee 06-19-2004 08:17 PM

Piccolo Bass

OK. Gotcha. It's essentially a tenor guitar/alto bass guitar sorta thing. In the octave between the two instruments.

Thanks for the info!

Guts! That's not the problem. It's been finding quiet time here to do it. That's been cut down now too since the brats have 1/2 days until their last day of school. After Wednesday, peace and quiet disappear until September.

VAXman 06-22-2004 05:23 AM

It's here! It's here. It's finally here. Aural Moon Lister Appreciation Day has finally arrived.

:D

i finally found the iona u.k.com site.

teermin8r 06-23-2004 09:46 PM

I own 2 Iona cds, 'Open Sky' and 'Journey to the Morn'. Both are excellent and I am going to get the box set off of their website, which has their first 3 cds and a special live cd. Since I didn't see you in the chatroom that day but knew you were listening, just to let you know all of the songs on my playlist were songs I never knew b4 AM, except the last song. The FZ 'Nanook Medley' I chose to finish with is because I had requested the the yellow snow medley be ripped as one song. So I think I had some influence over that. Anyway the moon has influenced me in so many ways in my life and none of them bad.
