Not Prog but good - Police and Elvis
Costello of course. Elvis opened with a first in my ENTIRE CONCERT GOING HISTORY. Of over 40 years. Elvis started 5 minutes EARLY of the stated start time... We heard them start, and as we walked in the 2nd or 3rd song was "Pump It Up" - that was the first one we could hear. We determined that I have better ears than my (5 years) younger brother, as I identified the song well before him. Got our beers and made our way to our pretty good seats - about 75 rows back, but dead center. A beautiful sunset was happening to the right of the stage. EC played some new tracks, but focused on the obvious hits. (I dont want to go to) Chelsea was a great deep track. The 4 piece band (EC on guitar), bass, drums and keys was tight and to the point - every song and solo sounded good, not much improv, but enjoyable. Sting made a surprise appearance and sang on "Allison". What else? First time I've seen EC, and I really enjoyed it - have been a big fan for a long time. A longish break between the 2 acts, with lots of video tidbits obviously planned to get the crowd "up" for the police... part 2 of review to come...

Re: Not Prog but good - Police and Elvis
I've never been an EC fan but I should give it a shot. That sounds like fun, especially outdoor.
BOC came on 15 minutes early once....it is rare! Question: What show did you see when you were 5? 8-) |
Re: Not Prog but good - Police and Elvis
When the Alan Parsons Project opened for Yes, they came on 15 minutes early. Everyone was saying that's pretty bold for a warmup band to be doing APP songs. But found it was actually Alan with his guest singer for the tour.
Not a huge EC fan, but he was always different enough from the mainstream to hold my interest. |
