New Section - Concerts
 

Avian, what do you think about a new thread directory dedicate to concert anouncements. That way we can keep each other informed about concerts that we wouldn't know about otherwise. For instance, I recently did a King's X concert listing. There could be a forum specifically dedicated to a whole bunch of similar threads.

Good idea Keith, I'll start.

The Groundhogs at The 100 Club, London, England. February 13, 2004.

Only one of the two bars was open, but that was enough. I think Steve bought the first round, then Keith, then me, and I kind of lost track after that, since we had done the same at the pub we met at prior to the gig. Afterwards, we went to an after hours club that I couldn't find again if my life depended on it, and drank more beer.

Oh, and the Groundhogs were pretty damn good too.....:D :rolleyes:

Misunderstanding
 

I think I've been misunderstood. I am proposing an entire new forum. Under "Prog Rock Discussion" we'd have "Music Suggestions," "Prog Trivia," "General Discussion/Prog News," and now "Concerts." Then we could post setlists, reviews, and tour info under the thread title of the artists. For example, that King's X tour above would be in a thread entitled King's X, and the concert review for the Groundhogs would be a seperate thread entitled "The Groundhogs." That way, we'd have a forum to keep each other updated on tours and shows. Whaddya think Avain and PDJ?

Jethro Tull at Shepherds Bush Empire.
 

Awesome gig. support was "Martin Barre and Friends". The Friends turned out to be the rest of Tull so in effect we had two different sets by Tull. The first consisting of Martin's solo stuff. He really is an amzing guitarist. He was also helped out by Willy Porter an american singer/songwriter who plays brilliant acoustic guitar too.

Tull's set proper started with Living in the past and was brilliantly played. Other songs in the set were, in no particular order: Aqualung, Loco Breath, Wind up, My God, Mother Goose, Nothing is easy, Farm on the freeway, a couple of songs from Rupi's dance, Beggers Farm, Songs from the wood, Too old to Rock 'n roll, Heavy Horses and a few more I can't remember. They played for a bit over 2 hours and we all had a great time. The chat between songs was as funny as I've ever heard Ian do.

All in all a great night out.

You were understood, Yesspaz, but I couldn't resist posting my Grounhogs concert "review".

Avian will have to create the new heading, but I'm sure he will when he reads this...

I just saw the band dada, for the second time in six months. I won't begin to bore you with details, but if these guys are ever in your area SEE THEM.

Too many bands are devoid of emotion and any type of fun in concert. I don't care if it's music that's supposed to be high-brow or whatever, HAVE FUN.

Amazing musicianship with a pop sensibility. You can't beat that in concert.

Dada?
 

Never heard of Dada until you started talking good about them. There's a music store here that's going out of business. I saw Dada's Puzzle for about $3. Worth it? If so, tell me why. I've never heard the band. Why is it worth my $?

Keith is a big fan too, I'm sure he can trump it up.

They are a band that in concert, is more than meets the eye. On vinyl, they are song-oriented. The Stavesacre you sent me is similar in song structure, but Stavesacre is more heavy and grungy, Dada is cleaner. The harmonies are awesome, which I feel separates the garage bands from the greats.

The guitarist is incredible, he has a twang to his style. He'll be the one with the raspier edgy voice, the bassist has the gentler tone. A great contrast.

Puzzle is their first CD, lumped as alternative (but we know better). It's worth $20 to me, so three is an absolute steal. I really like the second CD (American Highway Flower). They put out two more, "El Sublisimo" and "dada" (just like King's X, their fourth is self-titled).

After a four-year hiatus, they've just put out "How To Be Found", and have a live record too. I'm excited cause I thought they were dead in the water.

Absolutely fantastic first album............if you can get it for $3 GO FOR IT!!!!

As Rick says vocal harmonies to die for and brilliant (sometimes quirky) pop songs.
