Thanks again to everyone for their advice. Particularly indebted to VAXman in his attempts not to get me butchered and bin-bagged in the streets of Newark. I think I'll stay in the main city. I'll still trawl around the used shops in the village looking for jazz etc, so you never know. Finally, what a fantastic thing AM is - it could never exist over here; if a radio station doesn't have a brainless megaphone foghorning at people telling them what packaged pap to listen to, the listeners' minds go into meltdown.
