Frank Zappa
The Moon has a fairly large selection of Zappa, however some of his most well known albums (as well as some lesser known albums) are not available. I'm starting this thread and offering to donate some FZ albums that have not made it to the Moon yet. Namely, Uncle Meat, Joes Garage Acts I, II & III, You Are What You Is, Frank Zappa Meets The Mothers Of Prevention, Studio Tan, & The London Symphony Orchestra Vols. I & II. I'd be interested to hear others thoughts on the inclusion of these albums to the Moon DB. Again, I will donate them if they are deemed worthy. Obviously I think they are quite worthy.

Re: Frank Zappa
I want to hear the story of Billy the Mountain and Ethel the Tree.
Also the Mud shark interview. That has me ROTFLMAO every time I hear it. |

Re: Frank Zappa
I think it may have been, Billy makes a cameo appearance in The Adventures of Greggery Peccary. First:
"GREGGERY takes a bumpy trail off the main SHORT FOREST ROAD, which leads him up the side of a FAMOUS (and convenientlv placed) MOUNTAIN, and into a strange cave on the edge of a cliff, not far from a LITTLE TWISTED TREE. . .with eyes on it." And then later: "GREGGERY doesn't realize He has concealed himself Inside the very mouth of BILLY THE MOUNTAIN! HO! HO! HO! And, as you all know, Whenever BILLY laughs, Rocks and boulders hack up, And the air for miles around Is filled with tons of dust, Forming a series of huge BROWN CLOUDS! " Actually now that you & Keithie mention it, Just Another Band From LA would be another good addition to the Moon, guess I'll need to donate in stages if Jim gives it the go ahead. I will make one requirement for the donations tho, that the *whole* album gets put on, otherwise we'll just skip that album, partial Zappa albums would mess up the conceptual continuity. ![]() Last edited by jtmckinley : 06-26-2007 at 11:27 AM. |

Re: Frank Zappa
Just talked with Jim in the shout box and he said:
"progdirjim : still here jtm - hold off for a bit - I have some of that Zappa already. Need time to revover from a total hard drive crash - I'm still missing lots of files and data..." So I'll wait until Jim lets me know what he doesn't have. |

Re: Frank Zappa
while I respect FZ, and enjoy some of his music (Jazz from Hell, especially), I find that I usually switch away from the Moon when he comes on.
just standing on the other side of the fence...

Re: Frank Zappa
errrrr.... I'm a bit like Rogor. Not a huge Zappa fan, sorry jt and Zappa ppl. But...I trust Jim will do the musical balancing audit he always does with these things, and besides, even with a huge library of Zappa, we still have the RQ "guidelines" (rules) in place, as we do for everything else that has a largish musical presence here, so all it will do is give greater choice to those who enjoy Zappa, not inundate us with Zappa. Thanks for your offerings, jt.

Re: Frank Zappa
Certainly no offense taken Roger, I know there are folks that don't get into Zappa and that's fine, but as mossy noted there are several who do and I would like some more variety even though there is quite a bit already. The box usually gets pretty lively when Nanook comes on and I imagine tunes like Greggery Peccary or Billy The Mountain discussed above might have a similar effect. In any event, as I said before I'll wait for the nod from Jim after he recovers his files since he said he already has some of the stuff I'd like to see on the Moon. Thanks for your input.
