Jefferson Airplane - After Bathing at Baxter's
This is not a definite request for this album, as I've never heard it. Rather, I was curious as to what people think of it. I noticed it in progarchives.com as "proto-prog" and the wikepedia entry is interesting. I've heard the short clips on amazon.com, but you can't tell much from that.
Does anyone know this album and what do you think about it? Is it proggish or just long psychedelica? Thanks for the input. Spaz.

Re: Jefferson Airplane - After Bathing at Baxter's
The wiki write-up pretty much has it down. That album is more hippy trippy music with longer songs or suites with more social significance. The production is pretty interesting. Voiceovers and sound effects at the end of the first track.
I would actually say this is a proto-prog album. I wouldn't mind seeing it on the moon. I actually like some of the later Plane as they got better musically. This album shows some of that growth from the earlier records. My vinyl is worn out, not as much from over playing, but my friends would keep licking the album thinking some hallucinagents were embedded in the tracks. ![]() ![]() I do have the cd and would be happy to send it in if there's a consensus.

I have the "Worst of", which is a really good compilation. I've heard them all, but cannot remember if the records are short, etc.

Re: Jefferson Airplane - After Bathing at Baxter's
After looking at what's on each record (It's been awhile), I like Volunteers and Surrealistic Pillow even better. Volunteers has the great version of Wooden Ships and my fav JA song Good Shepherd. Of course, I'm a big Jorma fan and that song is Hot Tuna all the way (seeing him again in December).
I'd also be interested in others' opinions of the Airplane... Quote:
They were on after about 75 minutes of the Fantasy Camp and Extreme had a 90 minute set after Kx. After the Fantasy Camp all-star jam, my ears were shot, so when they came on they seemed quiet. But it was tight, all Doug songs - Ty didn't do much singing lead...but all were in great form - Doug had them eating out of his hand during Over My Head - in which he stopped the song aftr a verse, saying "he forgot the f'ing words", only to get the crowd to sing from the beginning of the song to lead him back. Lots of fun. Awesome musicianship. I did get them to sign my dollar bill, nothing else to sign ![]() Last edited by Rick and Roll : 08-05-2008 at 09:44 PM. |
