NEARFEST PRESS RELEASE
August 16, 2005

FM SIGNALS RETURN TO AIRWAVES AT NEARFEST 2006

We are extremely delighted to announce that the widely beloved
Canadian progressive rock trio FM have reformed and will be
performing live for the first time in 12 years at NEARfest 2006. FM
are probably best known for their gold-album award winning 1978
classic "Black Noise", which features a captivating diverse blend of
symphonic prog rock, fusion, Berlin-school influenced electronica and
science-fiction inflected lyrics anchored by strong vocal lines,
fiery keyboard and violin solos, and pulsating odd-meter percussion.
Their following album "Direct to Disc" showed off the experimental
improvisational fusion side of the band, while the subsequent
efforts "Surveillance" and "City of Fear"(produced by Larry Fast)
showed them melding their progressive pedigree with a song-based
sensibility. FM have been long renowned for their energetic live
performances, earning them a slot opening for their fellow countrymen
on Rush's 1982 Signals tour. After two pop-oriented albums in the mid-
1980s FM disbanded only to return again in 1994 with a triumphant
sold-out reunion concert in Toronto to support the CD reissue
of "Black Noise", which was immortalized on the superb "Retroactive"
live CD.

The core FM duo of keyboardist/bassist/vocalist Cameron Hawkins and
drummer Martin Deller and are currently hard at work
remastering "Surveillance", "Direct-to-Disc", and "City of Fear" for
their first-ever legitimate CD reissue, and writing and recording a
new FM album to be released around the time of NEARfest 2006. They
also expect to repress "Black Noise". In the coming months Deller and
Hawkins will also be auditioning musicians from Toronto's burgeoning
music scene to round out the recording and performing trio, as FM
violin alumni Nash the Slash and Ben Mink are both unavailable for
these projects.

NEARfest is very proud to be one of the several catalysts that has
transmitted FM back to active duty after 12 years of radio silence.
Be sure to tune in to FM's grand return to the stage on Saturday's
slate at NEARfest 2006!
