Show 94 - You Are There.....
It's Wednesday, so that means another Show thread, whether I'm up to it or not. This week it's an entire concert start to finish, by the fantastic Crack The Sky. We'll hear the "Live Recher Theatre 6/19/99" CD. It was only 5 miles from my house, and yes, I was there ( and 15 other times).
Clocks in about 145 minutes, so I'm throwing in some other songs. Steady Stan and I have made an unusual bet. Since the Baltimore and Tampa football teams are playing in Week 1, I suggested the loser buys the other a CD. If I lose, Stan will receive this one. If I win, I get the new Cryptic Vision. I'm not usually a trash-talker, but there's a player vieing for a spot on the Ravens who was born in Germany. He had a choice to join Baltimore or Tampa..he says "Tampa's too dirty" ![]() ![]() This live disc captures an entire show - no overdubs, no treatments. So the crowd is especially annoying during the slow parts (like the awesome piano solo in "Ice"). And it was a show that featured the "Crack Pack Horns" (Trumpet, trombone, Sax), which led to extended jams and bouncy numbers. What it is: White Music 4:51 Hold On 3:09 From the Greenhouse 6:03 Nuclear Apathy 5:12 Banter:Hello :50 All-American Boy 3:20 Techni-Generation 3:28 (skipped, it's a rotten song) Skin Deep 4:42 Banter: Horn Introductions :26 Why Me? 4:52 Art of Wondering 5:20 Banter: It's Hot :15 Ice 13:18 Banter: Seamless Live Record 1:10 We Want Mine 5:04 Lighten Up McGraw 8:15 (disc 2) Too Cold To Be Cool 2:48 Sea Epic 6:24 I Don't Have A Tie 3:33 Banter:Halfway :13 Flashlight 16:02 Banter:Second Wind :29 Mind Baby 4:41 She's A Dancer 15:27 Banter: Conga Ricky :36 Surf City 9:58 Hot Razors In My Heart 8:05 Banter: Thanks/atlas :46 I Am The Walrus 5:31 To note: The extended brass sections on Dancer,Ice,Flashlight. The sly political banter and scathing lyrics of John Palumbo. The outstanding drumming John Tracey, and the wailing Ricky Witkowski on the left channel guitar (and second drum on Dancer). And finally, the obigatory Beatles cover to close out the evening. Added for your pleasure: When The Cameras Went Away (from John Palumbo's 2006 "Citizen X", a cutting look at how when New Orleans got off the front page, we all turned away). Animal Skins Maybe I Can Fool (Everybody) Both from "Animal Notes", CTS second record (I played all of the debut a few weeks back). Long Nights Safety In Numbers Both from "Safety In Numbers" their third record (1977). Crying Father From Idaho A song between the two records above. Good stuff Rick. Never heard them before but enjoyed it thoroughly, will likely have to buy some of their CDs. Thanks!

Only get the s/t, Animal Notes, any live, and Safety in Numbers. I like White Music but it's decidedly pop. All the others are buyer beware... And thanks for the feedback. I won't be chatting anymore on Mondays so it's hard to know how the shows go over. Although I did catch vax singing... ![]() |
