camel in a good way?

Very well, I have stepped in it. But in my defence:

Let the record show that I like three Camel albums, Mirage, The Snow Goose, and Moonmadness. And they were definitely great at one time (and hopefully will be at least very good in a few weeks).

But usually when a new band is described to me as sounding like Camel it gives me the heebie-jeebies. I wasn't so sure about Groovector til I heard 'em and they knocked the very socks off my feet.

So apologies to the Camelheads if I have trodden upon you. I was raised in Canada and we have no manners there.

No offense Sean (Freudian slip thing), my favourite Camels are the same as yours. Though, I like Rajaz as well.

I'd probably feel the same way about Camel's newer stuff. Its kind of hit and miss. I've been hoping for the best since LeBlanc has been involved and I've really enjoyed his Mahl stuff. But, he's not going to play. Anyway, my fingers are crossed.

I just wanted to reply, just to let you know that someone is out there listening. You said something similarly funny last week, I replied, and my email hosed on me, and I was too lazy to write again. (It must be extremely tricky to do a DJ show)

I got into Camel late, and am lukewarm about them. I do like the same three you mentioned. The problem I have is the whole worship thing - Camel was a fairly decent band - not "prog gods".

About Nearfest - I'm expecting a good, professional show. However, I'm always leery about bands that lose their key members - hopefully they will be good.

I've seen Camel loads of times with the original line up and with the "New" members that Andy Latimer has brought along and they have ALWAYS been good.

I believe that Tom Brislin who played Keys on the last Yes tour (The orchestra one) is with Camel for the US leg of the tour. He was very good and you should have a great festival.

Post your thoughts when it's done, eh? I'd like to know.

You probably meant this for Sean, and not me, but nontheless, I'll respond... My favourite Camel is the 70's era, but I was a 20 something in those days, and I suspect its more nostalgia, than quality. However, Camel was a lot younger then, and perhaps more adventurous. So, there's room for argument there.

I expect an excellent show from Andy and the rest, so the discussion is moot in a way. Bottom line is that I've got no worries

Cool. I had a lot of fun with the show last week (and I know some other folks were grooving on it) but I can also understand if some people found it a bit too much "stoner rock". The next few weeks will have more good ol' prog rock, but I wanted to show "where it came from".

I have to agree. Not to trod on any corns, but to my mind, Camel works best as bridge music between two better bands. "Let's play this Yes track, then we'll ease into some Camel, and then crank it back up with this Genesis track..."

Just my opinion, but Camel was always a bit "lite" for my tastes.
