How about a tour of Canada? You can use Rush and Godspeed as your anchors, and then go from there.

How about Scotland and Ireland? You could use Billy Mahonie, Iona, and Mogwai and tons others....

Canada, Scotland, and Ireland....

Canada is one of my main areas of expertise so I could do a ton of shows. It's just been a question of organizing my collection and thoughts, to be honest. I will be doing some Canadian shows this month.

I'm not sure how to handle Scotland at this point as it's part of the UK. I might be more inclined to use Scottish bands whenever I do a UK show, for example Beggar's Opera in a show about proto-prog or Marillion in a show about neo-prog.

Ireland I would be more inclined to do a separate show, although I don't have enough stuff from Ireland to fill a two hour show. Mellow Candle and Horslips are the main two bands that come to mind, and maybe the Pogues if you take a very liberal definition of prog (which I often do, admittedly). But at some point it would be worth looking into.

Sean - I'm in the process of bidding on a 2LP on 1CD from an Irish band called Fruup - which would be some great stuff for an Irish show. As Yesspaz mentions, Iona is also worthwhile, and I've also got some of that. I've also got some new-agey type stuff from Nightnoise and EKO that might help fill out the show. And it seems like I must know of someone else - I'll post again if I think of it....

Yeah, I've heard of Fruupp, they would definitely fit. I guess the long story short is that I'm working on it ... lots of ground to cover in 2004 so maybe I'll squeeze it in.

I'd take Scotland, Ireland, and England seperately. I mean, when you look at England, there's some big names - Genesis, Yes, King Crimson, shoot, you could do a whole year on England and one on the USA! It'd probably not be worth it though....

I actually don't know who Billy Mahonie is. Sorry! Could you tell me more?

I would consider Mogwai but it would be a tough choice. They really belong in the post-rock category and I try not to co-opt other genres TOO much, even though I enjoy listening to them. I do sometimes tho...

England would require a lengthy series like France, Italy, etc., as you mention. I'd be willing to do it, and play obscure stuff like Marsupilami, East of Eden and Comus alongside Gentle Giant and Crim.

I consider a Mogwai one of the more progressive post-rock bands, but they are definitely post-rock first. Just as a note, on that vote for the best prog albums of 2003 site, whatever it was, Mogwai's "Happy Songs For Happy People" was on the list and got one of my ten votes....
