Rickter Scale Show 198 - Revolution Road and X-Rayed

airing Sunday, October 12 from 8-11 PM EST and Monday, October 13 from 1-4 PM EST

This week's show (and a third of next week) will be the last of the full discs for a while. The next several shows will either showcase 4-5 songs from artists or single songs by many artists. Call this week a "lazy" show, but I really wanted to get these two on.

Rocket Scientists - "Revolution Road" (2006)

Disc One:
1) Look Up
2) Sky Is Falling
3) Dream In Red
4) Better View
5) Outside the Painted Walls
6) Revolution Road
7) Forever Nights
8) Ptolemy
9) Gypsy (Of A Strange and Distant Time)
10) Savor Every Moment

Disc Two:
1) Castles Fall
2) UFO S.H.A.D.O. Theme
3) Enjoy the Weather
4) Pay Your Dues
5) Eden Burns
6) Hold That Thought
7) House of Cards
8) After the Revolution

Yes, BOTH discs. The reason is, there is so much diversity among the songs that you feel as if you're not listening to the same band. There is no real interconnection or theme, just an hour and 41 minutes of great music. Plus it gived me an excuse to put in these dandy new promos Vaxman got at 3RP.

There is some nice songwriting, catchy choruses ("Sky Is Falling" is memorable), excellent musicianship.

Sylvan "X-Rayed" (2004)

So Easy
So Much More
Lost
You Are
Fearless

Today
Through My Eyes
Given - Used - Forgotten
This World Is Not For Me

The follow-up to the universally loved "Artifical Paradise", this marks the beginning of the end of the heavier Sylvan period. There is some aggression that comes out, without compromising the nice melodies that they create. I personally think they've lost their edge, but many others like the direction since. Regardless, this one's a winner, especially the epic "Gven - Used - Forgotten".

Next week I'm all over the musical map, including some non-Moon stuff and a fine CD recommended to me by our very own Mr. Magoo.
