Hello,

"The point is I am offering a bit of constructive critisism which should be evaluated, and then either ignored or accepted as it makes sense to the producers of the shows."

Taken entirely as such.

My typical show is about 88% music. Part of the talking time must include "what just played" and "what's next", because the show streams as a single track and you would not get that information otherwise. My background is in broadcast community radio where such an approach is common.

Your personal reaction to the presentation of the show is appreciated. The show will continue to be presented in this way, and you will have to balance your enjoyment of the music against your dislike for the approach. I like learning more about music and appreciate finding out stuff I didn't already know, so that's how I treat listeners, with the risk that some either don't care or already know everything.

Your idea of storing information on the show web-site has already occurred to me. I don't have time to do it. It's still a good idea.

Any promos for PS were a gift from Cozy and I appreciate them. I don't need them at this point, so if they piss people off go ahead and pull them.

Regards,
Sean

Nice quote...can I steal it?

Has a ring to it...like "the need of the many outweigh the needs of the few".

Btw, another Sox fan..aaahhhh!..trying to get rid of the front-running Sox and Yankees poseurs in Maryland!

I appreciate the criticism, and I am always happy to hear it. I have been doing the program for 14 years and still get complaints I don't play Yes enough(for you Cozy). When I play new music and obscure material, I, like Sean, and Cozy, like to explain a bit to the world what you are hearing. I try to cover all basis for each artists fairly. Most listeners 'want' to know more than just a tune being played. Trust me, they let me have it if I forget to. In regards to the announcements on my program, it's something that won't change. Keep in mind, I have sponsors, radio station announcements and FCC laws to follow as well. Being live on a radio station is a bit different than being on the internet unfortunately. If our station was a 20 watt station covering just the parking lot and the house down the street I probably could get away with a lot more. But because I am on 2 stations that hit 3 states and a major city it makes it a bit harder to have the freedom to change things. And granted, my boss lets me get away with a lot, long tracks, etc. If it gets to some that badly, I would say what I always say, change the channel. Only you can control that.

The program reinvents itself all the time, and I hope down the road, you all find something you like. I enjoy Sean and Cozy's show and find them the gold of the net.

My $.03 (adjusted for inflation)

Wow. Good thread.

One thing, however: I see no mention of the new Interzone promo soliciting opinions on the promos. Has anyone cast their vote in the Interzone forum? I haven't taken the time to look into it as yet, but I will as soon as I'm done here. Yes, the Gnosis Long promo has been done to death. But as it stands, we don't have a whole lot to chose from.

Anyway, back to the subject at hand: I make it a point to try to listen to at least one run of each of the shows if possible. I personally prefer to hear a little background on what's being played -- especially on Prog Shores, Gnosis, and Interzone, where most of the stuff they're playing is hitting my inner ear for the very first time. Being able to say "Whoa, that's cool. Where can I get some of that?" and getting an answer makes it a lot easier (except perhaps on my wallet).

Roger -Dot- Lee, remember what you paid for it.

Make it 4 cents (it's your birthday).

I haven't heard it, and I probably won't for a while. Unless I copy it and listen to it. Heard it's fun, though.

Last time I talked to Jim, he wasn't very keen on promos. I'd like to build up the listener base by improving the site, etc.

How about just setting them to run at certain times ala Stardate?

I set my 30 second weekly spot the same time 10 times a week.

Seems to me you guys can decide what to run and run then at consistent times.

rick..i don't think it's the promos per se,
just the really bad ones...

honestly, that gnosis spot makes my eyes bug,
grab for the volume.

i agree w/ "station building". IMO- although it's
subjective, the higher the professional standards,
the better.
