Sorry it's been so long since I popped in. I went on a little vacation.
I don't think I can agree with a lot of what was said above. Post-Waters Floyd doesn't sit well with "purists"? What self-proclaimed purists? I guess "The Final Cut" is "pure Floyd"? I'll agree they missed a step with "A Momentary Lapse of Reason," but the "The Division Bell" is the best Floyd album since "Animals." If it'd been recorded in 1978, between "Animals" and "The Wall," it'd be considered a classic. And the best Floyd was Atom Heart Mother, Ummagumma, and Echoes (assuming you meant Meddle)? Well, there's no accounting for taste, but I'd say their creative peak was Meddle through The Wall, minus "Obscured by Clouds." In other words, to each his own. I will agree that in the off chance these four knuckleheads do another album/tour, I hope it's new and forward-thinking, not nostaglic (hear that favorite band Yes?). But, using the ironic joke that will ever be asssociated the Floyd, it will happen when pigs fly. I for one will be watching for pigs on the wing. Heh, if they actually do record and tour, it would be perfect to open and close with "Pigs on the Wing" and fly the pig again. Spaz out. P.S. Anyone else find it ironic that Waters turned into the dictator type person he purports to oppose?

Have to agree about Water's voice - definately sounded like an old man trying to hold a tune. So I don't think another album would be a good idea based on that fact alone.
Rest of the band sounded tight to me but I got a very definate sense of tension and 'We're only doing this for charity' kind of attitude. Personally I think they should call it a day. |

waters seems to have lost his voice only recently.
IMO he sounded fine on his "in the flesh" live cd 3 years ago. k (self-proclaimed purist) ![]()

man in the middle
I would never tell anyone to retire, yet I wouldn't purchase a new record.
By the way, I forgot to say in the Nearfest post that Gary Green was in attendance. It's nice seeing someone like that, I just wish people would stop trying to get Gentle Giant back together. If it happens great. If not, fine. |

I like The Wall. I'm one of the few that was able to see it performed live. I was nearly kicked out of college for painting the entire The Wall cover on the dorm hallway wall (the tilework looked just like the bricks on the cover and I was "inspired"). I'm just more fond of their creative experimental period and that was long before The Wall. Obscured By Clouds was scored for a movie soundtrack (The Valley). Movie: Boring... Soundtrack: just OK FYI, it wasn't me who said anything about being a purist. The Division Bell is a fairly good album. I even got FRC tix to see the tour at Giant Stadium. The only drawback, and I think I said this once before, was the pyrotechnics. FRC next to the heat of the explosions was a bit too much.
