What tracks should be combined?
Ok Moon People, Spaz here with an idea. Occasionally a long song or suite is split over many tracks, such as "Endless Dream" by Yes being tracks 7, 8, and 9. Why do artists do this? Often it is because of contracts. For example, King's X's contracts with Metal Blade are for 10-song albums. Please Come Home... Mr. Bulbous had 9 songs, the last of which was the 10 minute "Move Me." To meet contract, it's tracked as "Move Me (Part One)" and "Move Me (Part Two)." There are many other reasons this type of tracking happens.
Through component burners and software, these can easily be combined into one track. However, sometimes a cd comes in the mail, such as a large shipment at one time, and the songs are ripped before the album has really been digested. So, what we occasionally get is tracks that are really part of longer pieces. Have you ever had this experience: You're kicking along to a jam on AM and then it abruptly stops in an odd place, and you think, "what happened?" Then you know what I'm talking about. I have begun to download these pieces of pieces, combine them with software, and re-upload them. I discussed it with Jim, and he's all for it in principle, except that he can and will veto any he deems should stay seperate. For instance, often you'll see a multi-part suite with gaps of silence between them. Sotos' "Malstrom" is seven tracks, "Maltrom Part 3," etc., and there's little direct continuity between tracks. So this will stay seven seperate tracks. Also, sometimes suites are seperate tracks because of sheer length. "Five Suns" by Guapo is just over 45 minutes. It's tracked as five seperate pieces, but could be combined. Of course, the obvious problem is request hogging. So that's where Jim's veto power comes in. What I'm asking for in this forum is simple suggestions of stuff that should not be split. For instance, "Long Distance Runaround/The Fish" are together, as are parts of The Wall and The Final Cut. However, "The Cinema Show" and "Aisle of Plenty" are not together, and maybe should be. So, my point is, can you think of two or three or more tracks that should be a whole? Post them here in the format of... ARTIST - ALBUM - TRACKs A, B, C, D, Etc. I'll download them from AM and give a listen. If I agree, I'll combine them, send them to Jim, and if he agrees, they can go back and replace the cut up version. Patience is a key, because I can't combine dozens a day, nor will Jim stop his world to listen to them, but a few here, and a few there, and eventually we won't have a jam stop mid melody. Peace out. PS, I'll got first. ABWH - ABWH - Order of the Universe/Let's Pretend
