The Machine Performs Pink Flyd, gig in Essen on Dec. 12th

Just a short review:
The gig took place in a musical theater, were normally The Phantom At the Opera is performed. So all family was well seated in row 12.

The Machine begun with Wish You Were Here, the complete album!. Then they announced a little break telling us, that after the break they will play the complete The Wall! And so they did! (they played net nearly 3 hours)

The performance was not a 100% copy of the original PF (let's say 95 %), which gave it a little personal "Machine" note. As an example, the speed of Shine on You Crazy diamonds was much slower than the original. Also the did a little jamming where the pieces allowed. Performing the wall I remembered very well the original PF gig I attended here in Dortmund. Of course, the 4 ppl (plus one saxo from time to time) could not give all the volume that the min 20 musician gig of the original, but is was really astonishing, how good they were. Chicken skin many times.... Also they used the original of PF projected to a round screen like at the original.

After heavy applause from the sold out audience, they played Money, which they used again to jam..

Different to Musical Box (which I saw together with RogorMortis) was, that they were not glued to the original and I felt (just my personal impression) that they played it with heart and 100% dedication, having fun doing what they were doing.

So, if this group appears near to you, don't miss it. My daughter, my son, Doris and me had a excellent time.

Keep it going Lotus...I've tiring of doing concert reviews so it's good to see you pick up the ball of late.

And I've always missed the machine...some bands I do that, not by choice. thanks for the review, it helps...

You said they did The Wall Did they have the stage show (block carriers building the wall, videos, teacher/mother ballons, etc) like the original show?

No, Vax, they had a mini pseudo wall mounted, which was static. Only the movies on the small, round screen were the original. See the pix in Mailos link

Wink Re: The Machine Performs Pink Flyd, gig in Essen on Dec. 12th

The Machine in Liège at the Forum 14 december 2006 at 8:30 pm
Old theather -like venue, very good acoustical conditions, cumfortable seats , perfect for Floydian atmosphere, around 1500 attendees
Band started right at 8:30
Wish you were here ; A much slower Shine on part one , good versions of Welcome to the machine and Have a cigar ( the best track imho) , a poor Wish you were here and an average Shine on Part two ( some jamming) band seemed a wee bit uncomfortable crowd was receptive
15 minutes intermission ( Jupiler lager beer )
The Wall , band refreshed ( belgian beer side effects ? ) a few more db and this part was simply fantastic from the very first notes till the end...( Hey You/Cumfortably numb/Run like hell)... extatic crowd.... band played an outstreched Us and Them as a unique encore ... Brilliant...
