Journey to Rosfest and NearFest in 08

Ok Moonies help us out. We are traveling from the San Fransisco bay area to RosFest and NearFest in 08. What would be the best airport to fly into as far as air fares go? What would transportation be like from various airports to Rosfest and NearFest? I know there some very seasoned travelers out there. Help us out.

Re: Journey to Rosfest and NearFest in 08

Philadelphia is probably the best airport for both festivals and rent a car from there.

But you might be able to hook a ride from someone else arriving at the airport as well. I know I fly in for RosFest to Philly as well. But I'm coming in Thursday night to get settled and play friday in the city. But we might could pick you up if timing works right.

But you probably want a car for this area. Not very public transportation minded out in the venue areas.

Rosfest is closer in to Philly and would be a little easier taxi wise.

NearFest, you need a car or a chauffered service.

You could get into Allentown for Nearfest. There's a hotel right across the street too. I drove and my friend flew into Allentown and we stayed there. It worked out fine. Depending on how many are "we", you could get around easily by getting rides, but I'm sure you'd want a car...

Allentown (Lehigh Valley International) is airport code ABE. Flights into ABE will likely be quite pricey. I was born and raised in the Lehigh Valley and I have never used ABE because of the steep price differential. You won't find a direct flight into ABE from SF, that is certain.

Philadelphia (PHL) might be your best bet for ROSfest. I'll see what SEPTA has to offer in terms of transportion from there to Glenside Area and report back. I'd offer to get you and take you back but I don't know what my load will be yet.

For NEARfest, Newark Liberty (EWR ) may be a good option. It's only an hour on I-78 and probably faster than from PHL. I picked GORT up from there for NEARfest. Transbridge runs a bus from Allentown/Bethlehem to EWR. http://www.transbridgebus.com/ From SF, you might get your best rate into EWR. Continental flies direct and EWR is their big hub in the US/NE.

Martha and I picked up and put up (and put up with ) RogorMortis (arrived from Denmark at NY/JFK) and Teermin8r (PHL) for last year's ROSfest. We had to drive 2 vehicles to ROSfest. M and I were toying with the idea of leasing a larger vehicle if the same happens this year. I may have KeithieW to pick up too this year. I'd lease a small RV but I'd be afraid that KW/RM/T8R would finish off the Guinness in the back before we arrive!

If you are coming east for longer than these festival weekends, let me know. I can show you around Philly, NYC, Lehigh Valley, etc.

Get me your itinerary early. I'll have a lot of scheduling to perform.

Sallie and I will be in the area with a vehicle and can also assist with vehicle transportation if it gets hectic. In fact if any one is coming in about the same time we are we can share direct from the airport.

I hadn't booked my flight yet - so let me know of some plans. I will probably want to be coming in Thursday evening or Friday morning/early afternoon.

Tell ya what: in a pinch, and assuming I make it, I can handle driving duties (as long as I have a navigator). Either that or I can make sure that I'm the keeper of the Guinness and can make sure it gets divvied out fairly.

I'll handle the Guinness apportionment.

1 for me. 1 for you and 1 for you and 1 for you...
1,2 for me. 1 for you and 1 for you and 1 for you...
1,2,3 for me. 1 for you and 1 for you and 1 for you...
1,2,5, 9 for me...

My wife and I will be arriving in Philly on April 30th. We will be staying until May 6th. So, what else can we do in the area while we are there? We will have a car. Suggestions.

You could take VAX's scenic tours of Philly and NYC watering holes!
